Chemical Synthesis

Ambitious and effective chemical synthesis is critical to the success of our work. As such, synthesis remains a key technical strength of the group. Previously, we have contributed the invention of new chemical synthesis methods. For example, we have developed novel "frustrated" Lewis pair (FLP) catalysis to mediate the first catalytic and non-metal mediated reduction of C=O bonds using FLPs (e.g. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2014, 136, 15813. DOI). More recently however, our synthetic efforts are exclusively directed towards the realisation of our functional material designs, synthesising target molecules for chiral materials, photoswitchable materials, and medicinal chemistry.
